All computing systems work with a single data storage system (more than 1 PB), have a single control and monitoring system, and the results of calculations can be presented on a specialized visualization system with 4K resolution.

The engineering infrastructure contains all the necessary equipment to ensure the operation of the SKTs, the power consumption of which is almost 1 MW. Note that more than 90% of the heat flux generated by the computing equipment is removed by direct water cooling of the nodes.

The SKTs project is debut in two respects: • the first supercomputer computing system in Russia based on the new Xeon E5-2600 v3 processors from Intel; • the first large-scale implementation of an innovative solution in the supercomputer industry – an ultra-high multithreading computer based on Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors.

We will tell you about how Peter the Great SPbPU manages to provide high-quality education of engineers using the example of the North-West Interuniversity Regional Educational and Scientific Center “SPbPU-FESTO” Synergy “

Today, technologies are developing very rapidly, and the university educational and laboratory base does not always keep up with these processes. However, the Polytechnic Institute tries to work ahead of the curve, introducing the latest production automation technologies into the educational process – not only domestic but also foreign ones. We will tell you about how the university manages to provide quality education for engineers using the example of the North-West Interuniversity Regional Educational and Scientific Center “SPbPU-FESTO“ Synergy ”.

The educational and scientific center “SPbPU-FESTO” Synergy “” was originally part of the international academic partner network of scientific and educational centers and laboratories for high-tech equipment and intelligent robotics with the participation of the German manufacturer of pneumatic automation equipment FESTO. The center’s activities are aimed at training engineers who possess the three principles of mechatronics, that is, general purpose engineers with knowledge in the fields of mechanics, electronics and software.

“Currently, mechatronics specialists are in demand in many areas: industry, energy, transport, medicine, and so on. In essence, these are universal specialists, whom we train, among other things, in our Center. The quality of products and the reduction of its cost depends on how skillfully our graduates will serve various complex technological lines, on the less time these lines will be idle due to breakdowns, which is very important now, in conditions when our country is trying to move to economy based on knowledge-intensive high-tech industries “, – comments the director of the educational and scientific center” SPbPU-FESTO “Synergy” “V.V. Potekhin.

Today the North-West Interuniversity Regional Educational and Scientific Center “SPbPU-FESTO” Synergy “has one of the best sites for training students – it uses the most modern educational technologies of the FESTO company, such as robotic lines of chemical and assembly plants. In February 2016, the Laboratory of Intelligent Robotics and Cyber-Physical Systems was established on the basis of the Center.

Within the framework of applied research, the laboratory staff, and these are the teachers of the Department of Control Systems and Technologies of the Institute of Computer Science and Technology (ICST) of SPbPU, on the basis of which the laboratory was created, graduate students and students interested in robotics and engaged in advanced research, as well as graduates and young scientists are developing technologies for remote control of remote objects, group control of team behavior of robots and situational control in conditions of uncertainty. Due to the modern technical base, training is maximally built on the independent practical work of students, as well as on the active use of interactive (distance) learning technologies in the learning process. For example, in the spring semester, graduate students are taught the course “Intelligent control systems”.

Lecturers from four universities – partners of the international university network project “Synergy” (in addition to Polytech, these are Karaganda State Technical University, Moscow Power Engineering Institute and Omsk State Technical University) are involved in lecturing online. As for the students, apart from the four above-mentioned universities, they are students of the Baltic State Technical University and the Sevastopol State University. In the next academic year, it is planned to conduct two joint courses within the framework of the project.

“Each university has different equipment provided by the FESTO concern,” continues V.V. Potekhin. “However, students write essay about my hero of these universities – participants of the Synergy project, thanks to the created interuniversity network, have the opportunity to conduct laboratory research and work with any equipment of other participants during distance learning. For example, our students write their program, check it on a virtual model, then the teacher gives them permission, and the programs are loaded onto a robot or station in another university – this makes it possible to study a wider class of equipment of modern industrial solutions. “

It should be noted that FESTO is a global industrial partner of the WorldSkills movement. Therefore, modern equipment designed for the study of mechatronics, industrial robotics, electronics and automation allows, in addition to teaching basic specialties, to conduct classes in preparation for competitions according to WorldSkills standards in the Mechatronics competence. For example, in April 2016, a team of two SPbPU undergraduate students – Sergey Kovalevsky and Dmitry Pantyukhov – made a training trip to the WorldSkills Tatarstan championship in Kazan in the Mechatronics competence.

“Activities at the Center allow both to gain practical experience, which is very important for a future engineer, and to engage in scientific research. Coming here, you immerse yourself in the atmosphere of advanced technologies, robots and manipulators, you start doing something with your own hands. The high-tech base allows you to better navigate the current trends in the industrial market and engage in promising, production-oriented research, ”comments Sergei Kovalevsky.

And very soon the guys will defend the honor of the Polytech at the final of the National Championship “Young Professionals” (WorldSkills Russia) 2016, which will be held from 23 to 27 May in Krasnogorsk, Moscow Region.

The editorial staff of the Russian Education portal has prepared a selection of the most popular films about the Great Patriotic War.

We look, remember, we are proud.

“Zhenya, Zhenya and Katyusha”

The idea of the script for the film came from the director Vladimir Motyl, who read Bulat Okudzhava’s story “Be Healthy, Schoolboy”: yesterday’s schoolboy goes to war, and everything happens surprisingly and out of place.

The very story of the main character of the film, Zhenya Kolyshkin, who got lost with the package and got to the Germans on New Year’s Eve, was based on a plot from a front-line newspaper. But unlike the cinematic Zhenya, the soldier hid until the end of the war that he was in the enemy’s disposition.

The German soldiers were played by authentic Germans: students from the GDR who studied at the Leningrad University.

The film was shot in Kaliningrad and the Kaliningrad region, and the director decided not to focus on battle scenes and pay attention to the hero’s inner world.

But real rocket units were involved in the filming: they moved into a given square by order of the command and after filming moved back to secret positions.

“Only old men go to battle”

For several decades, this film, directed by Leonid Bykov, was one of the ten most popular cinematic works about the war.

The script was based on true events, and the prototypes of the heroes of the film were real war heroes. So, Maestro, the squadron commander of the guard, Lieutenant Titarenko, was “written off” from the Hero of the Soviet Union, Lieutenant General Vitaly Popkov. His squadron had its own choir, and two combat aircraft were donated by Leonid Utyosov’s orchestra, and one of them even bore the inscription “Funny guys”.

By the way, the scriptwriters attributed some of Popkov’s actions to another hero of the film – Grasshopper: for low turns over the airfield, he was banned from combat missions for a month.

Most of the events in the film were true: these were Maestro’s flights on an enemy plane, and the love story of Uzbek Romeo for a Russian pilot, and the tradition of a mechanic to baptize planes before taking off …
