Become An Expert In Your Chosen Field
The response is the same every time. When I tell people I’m a writer, they step back, their eyes go wide and they say ‘Wow. That’s must be exciting!’ There’s a certain cache to being a writer. Images of long scarves, casual lunches, leisurely writing lines filled with wit and insight while staring out the window. Everyone has a novel, or a short story, or a screenplay or a play stuffed half finished in a drawer. The writer’s life must be such a thrilling life compared to the 9-5drudgery of the accountant, the teacher, the administrator or financial planner. It must be so great. It must be so easy. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be a writer.
Media. The media uses Google to find expert sources all the time. They look for people to quote to make their story more credible. If you are the first person to pop up on Google when a journalist types in keywords or topics, that person is very likely to give you recognition by quoting you. Being quoted by the media in turn makes you appear to be even more of an expert. It’s a cycle: become enough of an write my paper for me review to be quoted by the media, and your expert status will increase.
The first meeting will be for learning to know one another, so it is not for book discussion, but discussing the last book everyone read might be a good way of learning to know everyone.

Do you and/or your company participate in industry events such as association meetings, trade shows, etc.? It takes more than attendance. It takes participation. Are you on panels? Do you write articles for the industry publications? Consider being involved in industry events – maybe even being on the board.
Being a freelance writer and entrepreneur means that I am my own boss, I make my own schedule, and I decide the tasks I will accomplish each day or week.

Naively, before writing the book, I thought I could submit the same manuscript to numerous publishers and then just wait to see what happened. I felt thankful that I teach people how to develop and maintain a positive outlook, because the waiting would be far more stressful without those skills.
The fact is though, to boost your business profits, it is a huge advantage to mark yourself out as an expert. This applies whether you are selling to customers (for example the cupcake expert for your region) or to businesses (the local SEO expert). If you can do this, people will approach you rather than you having to knock on doors for business, you will get to do more interesting work as you are more in demand and you can justifiably charge a premium on the back of your expertise.
Now, imagine that Stephen Hawking comes into the room. Who are you going to listen to? Hawking is the Trusted Authority in this field. He not only has all of the expertise that the expert has, but he has real influence and real power. His words can captivate audiences and his observations can change the way people think about the world. There are thousands of experts on astronomy, but there is only one Stephen Hawking – and that’s because he owns the position of authority in that particular market. While you many never achieve Hawking’s level of intelligence, you can achieve that level of influence in your own field.
