Dating apps expose lovebirds to scammers and hackers

Finding love ahead of the smartphone period often entailed an endless procession of bad dates, missed connections, and plenty of serendipity. Today, finding romance—or at the very least a Valentine’s Day date—is simply a swipe and a tap away.

Unfortuitously, therefore too are frauds and hacks that use mobile relationship apps to hoodwink the lovelorn.

Dating apps first caught fire with teenagers on university campuses, stated Wired’s Issie Lapowsky, because “you might take it to you, perhaps not unlike Instagram and all sorts of these apps we are hooked on, individuals began scrolling and scrolling plus it became a truly simple solution to fulfill individuals.”
